DOUGHNUTS AND ICE CREAM

APRIL 17TH - APRIL 21ST 2024

ABOUT THE SHOW

This work in progress, written and produced by Tamzin Murray is supported by Ryan Calais Cameron's company Nouveau Riche (West End's For Black Boys, UK/US Tour of Queens of Sheba), and is a play full of laughter and inside jokes, as three women take us on an exhilarating journey through poetic conversations about love and success – however, beyond surface level conversations and smiling faces, there is something much deeper taking place in their lives.

As Noelle goes through a lengthy journey to diagnosis for endometriosis, we see it affect her dynamic with best friends Gabby and Jazz, as well as her relationship with partner Andre as they navigate difficult conversations around health and fertility.

Their friendship quickly becomes more than a place to thrive but also a safe place to break as they piece back together her faith and view of womanhood.

Running from 17th-21st April 2024 at The Broadway Catford Theatre, Doughnuts and Ice Cream received standing ovations and sold out all 5 nights including the additional reserve seating, with its return in high demand.

"I love creating characters who we either know, have known or could know. I love their quirks, their imperfections, their superpowers - everything that makes them who they are. Hearing the audience in hysterics and hearing what resonated most touched my heart and I can't wait to bring this show back."

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

It was a huge pleasure. Literally about to call my gynae this morning, I feel inspired to advocate for myself.

SUNDAY SIP LIVE

The play brought back some memories from our childhood experiences with periods, to trying to be heard by a healthcare professional, to the first time we heard the word 'endometriosis', to our first surgery. It took us through all the emotions, tears with laughter.

I thoroughly enjoyed it! From capturing the beautiful bond of friendship to depicting the struggles of living with a chronic health condition and highlighting its impact on the quality of life (something I resonate with), the show struck a perfect blend of love, laughter and depth.

I absolutely loved it. My wife has endometriosis and we struggled to get pregnant so lots of the scenes really resonated with me. We went through lots of the same worries with the operation and my wife being unsure of the future. Such an important thing to be talking about and poorly understood by much of the NHS. I wish you all the luck for the show. You smashed it, great writing and fantastic performances and it really made me laugh!!!"

Saw this last night and looooved it. Cracked me up as much as it made me cry. A dynamic, gorgeous, honest portrayal of female friendship and an important message around endometriosis. Also, soundtrack bangeddd!

"He's a good guy, I just don't want to feel disappointed anymore."

"You can't be the only one fighting for it to work, Jazz. He has to want it too."

"Not only does he have to want it, he has to choose it. That's not even about what you deserve, that's a basic foundation of love and without it, you've got to walk away."

"This sucks!!! You know none of this would be happening if Anthony Joshua would stop playing and let me cook for him!"
